push yourself to the limit
Wednesday, March 15
over the past week (6-10 march), i've been leaving class early just to participate in the 92nd annual school track meet.
on monday, there was the 100m heats, which i wasnt even expecting to qualify for, but just went cos the house mistress forced me to join so many events.
on wednesday, i had to go for the 400m finals and the long jump finals. for the long jump, i just simply jumped the furthest i could and got 3.39m :) i'm pleased with that measurement. anyway i got 6th for long jump out of dunno 15+ people?
anewae for the 400m i found out i was put in the same race as nicholas and i was really scared cos i didn't wanna lag behind someone i know, and who kept on taunting me about joining 400m. arjun was placed in the other race so i was rather thankful for that. strangely, being in the same race as nicholas actually helped me :) it made me push myself to the limit. nicholas was on my right and i was busy keeping up with him, while another guy on my left was also trying to close in on me. everytime i could see the guy on my left in the corner of my eye, i took bigger steps. everytime nicholas started to increase the gap, i also took bigger steps. in this way, i was able to finish just 0.6s behind nicholas and got a third place finish!
but it wasnt over yet. their organisation was rather weird, so the finals were in 2 races, and arjun was in the second one. if anyone from that race could beat any of the top 3 times of my race, then my hopes of a medal would be gone, and i feared that arjun would be able to do that.
halfway through the race, as arjun was leading the pack, he claimed to have felt a pain in his lower calf. thus, he started to slow down and the others overtook him. if i had been in his race and had been pacing him faithfully, i would have either slowed down too assuming it is strategy, or would have continued running but not know how much effort to use as i would be in front. so i'm thankful to God that he put me in the race that made me perform my full potential. and also, nobody in that heat beat my timing so i got 3rd :D a bronze medal for me to collect when school reopens!
i'm just gonna finish off this real quick...the chronological order of events isnt really nice cos the big victory is in the middle of everything...hmph...anyway, on thursday, i had to participate in the 4x100m inter-class relay and the 4x400m inter-house relay. for the inter-class relay, we finished 1st in our heat but got an overall position of 7th lol. but we're still in the finals either way. for the inter-house relay, my team got 4th in the finals...disappointing really...but anyhow, i'm still so pleased with my bronze medal from the 400m event on wed! its worth all the tan and time
